Kawamoto Craniofacial Fellowship:
This prestigious fellowship is offered to applicants who have completed (or will have
completed by the start date) an accredited plastic surgery residency program. One fellow
is accepted each year through the SF match. Applicants should sign up for the match by going
to www.SFMatch.org.
Applicants are considered a good match for our program if they have a strong scholastic
background, have performed well in their residency, have dedicated themselves to research,
and are enthusiastic about remaining in academic medicine.
All materials listed below should be received by October 1. Typically, three applicants
are interviewed each year before the match list is submitted; however, this may vary.
Completed applications include:
- Letter of intent/Personal statement
- 3 letters of recommendation
- Current photograph
- Curriculum Vitae
- In-service scores for all years (print out of scores preferred)
- SF match number
- Follow-up recommendation surveys (will be faxed after letters of recommendation received).

International Craniofacial Training:
The UCLA Craniofacial program offers training opportunities for international fellows.
This program can vary from 6 months to 12 months. Applicants will need to obtain a Visa (J-1)
and a 2111 document through UCLA. This process can take roughly one full year to complete.
Details of the required tuition and proof of funding for living expenses will be supplied
to applicants.

Craniofacial Research Positions
The Craniofacial basic science research laboratory focuses on bone biology and bone tissue
engineering. Investigations on cranial suture fusion, distraction osteogenesis, adipose derived
stem cells are ongoing.
Craniofacial clinical research projects are also a focus of the division. Outcomes research
and comparative studies on innovative procedures are ongoing.

Plastic Surgery Residency
Currently the UCLA Plastic Surgery Residency program is a traditional 2 year program
for board eligible or board certified applicants. There are typically 4 resident positions
each year.
